Ibrahim Ahmad stood in the canteen wearing a vest filled with paper tubes made to look like explosives.
The 18-year-old held up a sign which said he was “the bomb” and asked the girl: “Will you be my date to prom?”
The girl accepted – but the school suspended him for five days, which means he’ll miss the prom.
Ahmad says the decision “kind of felt racist”.
He said: “If anyone else did that, I feel like no one else would have gotten in trouble for it.

“I want all my kids to feel safe and supported, but there’s a line”
“I wasn’t wearing the vest for more than, like, 20 seconds.
“I asked her, took a picture, took it off, and then the school got upset.”
LA Centre High School chief Mark Mansell said: “I want all my kids to feel safe and supported, but there’s a line.
“Given the way the world is today and school safety, even if one parent or one student was upset about this, it causes issues.”
Ahmad and the girl will no go to dinner instead of the prom.
